Jeffrey Burgess DDS Examines the Role of Botox in Dentistry

August 7, 2013 |

Jeffrey Burgess DDS is a retired dentist who  has written a number of articles on the field. Now, he is speaking out on a new  article that discusses the potential addition of Botox to dentists’ offices  around the country. The piece explains that Botox can be used to treat common  dental concerns, such as jaw pain due to teeth grinding.

Wade Paxman is one such patient who has  benefitted from this treatment. He regularly clenches and grinds his teeth when  stressed, which leads to severe jaw pain and debilitating headaches. Recently,  Paxman has undergone Botox treatments in order to find relief from these issues.  The treatment has worked wonders, notes Paxman. In fact, he states, “It’s just  magic. I love it. I’m saving my teeth and enjoying better health. It’s as simple  as that.”

This new form of treatment is just  starting to catch on in dentists’ offices. In Paxman’s home state of Utah, he  was only able to find one dentist who administers Botox as part of regular  treatment. However, as more and more dentists begin to look at Botox as a way of  helping their patients, there are some concerns about the qualifications and  stipulations for administering it.
