Online hCG Sales Spark Warnings from Nationally Recognized Weight Loss Center
Online buying of hCG for rapid weight loss has become increasingly popular with a growing number of sites offering the product for sale with little or no physician supervision, but a nationally recognized weight loss center in Oklahoma City urges caution when purchasing hCG online. The Broadway Clinic points to concerns about safety, efficacy and even potential legal issues related to such online purchases.
The Internet has changed many things and now it’s become a marketplace for weight loss too, but a nationally recognized weight loss center in Oklahoma City warns that some online sales of weight loss supplements are questionable at best and possibly even dangerous.
Dr. Arden Blough, who heads The Broadway Clinic’s Weight Loss for Life program in Oklahoma City, knows all too well the challenges of trying to lose weight.
“I have battled weight my entire life, so I truly understand what my patients are feeling when they first arrive at our clinic. But I also have experienced firsthand what losing just a little weight can mean for one’s health,” said Blough, who recently lost 30 pounds himself.
In recent years, there has been a lot of publicity surrounding Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in weight loss. The hormone hCG is a naturally occurring in the body. When used in conjunction with a very low calorie diet and under a physician’s supervision, it can help patients achieve significant weight loss very quickly.
Blough has been very pleased with the weight loss success he’s seen in Broadway Clinic patients utilizing Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in conjunction with a very low calorie diet under a physician’s supervision.
“I can’t even name all the diets that I have tried,” recounts Windell Main, who weighed 315-pounds and suffered two heart attacks before turning to a medically supervised weight-loss regimen centering around Opti-Lean, a sublingual (oral) hCG available in liquid hCG drops or dissolving hCG tablets. He lost 120 pounds. “It literally saved my life.”
An increase in internet sales and over-the-counter supplements, however, raises concerns over what Dr. Blough believes is an otherwise safe approach to rapid weight loss.
Although hCG is a naturally occurring hormone in the body and can be used by many seeking to lose weight, Blough stressed ensuring one’s safety should always be paramount and that’s why he believes hCG in weight loss should be medically supervised.
“There are issues that can arise when utilizing this sort of diet, especially when there are other diseases like diabetes or heart disease involved,” Blough explained. “I really worry about those who are buying something over the Internet for several reasons. First, you don’t know what you are getting. You may be throwing your money away because the product you get may not even have hCG in it. Or it could be contaminated. This is particularly a concern with products being sent from third world countries where there are no regulations or quality controls. And there is also the issue of your health. Above and beyond everything else what we do to achieve weight loss has to be safe, I mean who wants to be skinny and dead?”
Blough stressed that anyone considering an online purchase of a weight loss product like hCG, which is legally available only by doctor’s prescription, should be wary. First, they may be breaking the law with such a purchase. They may also be putting their investment and their health at risk.
The fact is it is difficult to know what a product may or may not contain when ordering from many online sources. Products marked online as containing hCG may not even contain any real hCG. The product may also be contaminated. This is particularly a concern with products being sent from other countries.
Consumers need to do their homework. Look for experienced weight loss programs that purchase hCG only from reputable U.S. sources.
“We purchase our hCG only from reputable U.S. pharmaceutical sources, such as Optilean hCG, so that we are confident in the products our patients are using,” Blough said.
There are also now products sold as “homeopathic hCG.” Blough explained the issue with these products is that they generally contain virtually none of the real hormone. Instead, the products describe homeopathic hCG as an “energetic imprint” of the substance. In reality, most of these products contain a solution in highly diluted form or the equivalent of a drop of hCG in 30 or even 60 gallons of water, a concentration far too low to be effective.
“The concentrations are perhaps even lower I would suspect. So you may lose weight with this stuff, but it’s probably not the right kind of weight. The fact is you are probably losing muscle and structural fat stores, instead of the abnormal fat cells we target with real hCG,” said Blough.
To better safeguard one’s health when choosing a weight loss program, look for one that requires an initial medical evaluation before beginning the program. This is a critical component of any weight loss program, including those that utilize hCG. Make sure patients in the program are seen regularly. This is important for patient safety, but also allows for adjustments to the program and provides vital support to help ensure weight loss success, Blough added.
In addition, it is important to choose a program that includes a maintenance phase following any intensive weight loss protocol. True weight loss success depends upon learning how to incorporate long-term diet and lifestyle changes that promote a healthy weight.
Certainly there are substantial health benefits to be gained by losing excess weight, but weight loss experts at the Broadway Clinic stress ensuring safety should always be paramount.
“There are health issues that can arise when undertaking any weight loss program. This is especially true if you have other diseases like diabetes or heart disease. A physician trained in managing weight loss can help customize a weight loss program for your individual health status, your needs and your lifestyle. He or she can also help you avoid potential problems and respond appropriately should they arise,” he added.
When done properly, with appropriate products, supervision and support, Blough said weight loss can be life-changing and lasting.
“I can actually say it saved my life,” said MaDonna McKeever, another patient who embarked on an hCG-centered weight-loss plan at the Broadway Clinic, lost 70 pounds in seven months and has kept it off. “I never thought I would wear a pair of skinny jeans, but now I do.”
